The terms “the  Internet ” and “the  Web ” are often used as if they are the  same  thing. They're not, and understanding the differences can help make things a lot clearer. The  Internet  has been in development since the 1960's, and is a way to allow different computers around the  World  to talk to one another.

On  6 August 1991 , the World Wide Web went live to the world. There was no fanfare in the global press. In fact, most people around the world didn't even know what the Internet was. Even if they did, the revolution the Web ushered in was still but a twinkle in Tim Berners-Lee's eye.

ARPANET adopted TCP/IP on January 1, 1983, and from there researchers began to assemble the “network of networks” that became the modern Internet. The online world then took on a more recognizable form in  1990 , when computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web.

The World Wide Web (abbreviated  WWW  or the Web)  is  an information space where documents and other web resources are identified by Uniform Resource Locators (URLs), interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. English scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989.

Your external  IP  address is: 66.249.75.63. If your computer is on a private network (behind a hardware firewall or router) then your computer's  IP  address is only valid in your own local network. When you connect to another machine on the Internet, that machine won't see your  internal IP  address.
